about

The position data of 7 optically-trapped Brownian microspheres were sonified using Pure Data. The radial displacements of each of the microspheres mapped to an audible pitch. For every particle, the centermost subregion of the mapping region corresponded to a unique note 'X' in a particular chord. Each mapped note increased along the 'X' chromatic scale as the particle moved out radially. In this example, the chord progression was CADG in C major. Chord transitions occurred gradually every 30-35 seconds. For each of the 7 mapping regions, the centermost subregion area was pi/8 microns and equal in magnitude to all other subregion areas.
