about

The position data of a single, optically-trapped Brownian microsphere was sonified using Pure Data. Each radial displacement of the sphere mapped to an audible pitch. The centermost subregion of the mapping region corresponded to C4. The mapped note had a 50-50 percent probability of increasing by 4 midi note numbers or decreasing by 5 midi note numbers each time the particle entered a new subregion as it moved out radially. The centermost subregion area was pi/8 microns and equal in magnitude to all other subregion areas. Midi notes were exported to Ableton Live to produce reverberated bell sounds.
